Inter deserved their 1-0 Champions League round of sixteen first leg win over Porto on the basis that they were the team who did more to try and win the match rather than settle for a draw, in the view of Italian media.

Today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews, argue that the Nerazzurri did more than enough to merit their advantage going into the second leg as they were the proactive side who were looking to create chances and unlock the match.

Inter take what could be a precious advantage in the tie to Portugal for the second leg against Porto, albeit a slender one.

It took until late on in the match, after Porto midfielder Otavio was sent off, for the Nerazzurri to break through, evidence of a tight and evenly-fought match.

However, from the Corriere’s point of view, Porto mainly imposed a slow tempo on the match to try and restrict Inter from getting on the scoresheet, whilst the Nerazzurri were pushing to score all evening, and were worth their goal.
