Italian journalist Paolo Condo feels that Inter Milan “made a serious error” in their handling of yesterday’s Serie A clash with Juventus.

Condo gave his assessment of the Derby d’Italia thriller in today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper La Repubblica, via FCInter1908.

Inter looked to be in control of yesterday’s Derby d’Italia when Denzel Dumfries scored their fourth goal of the match.

It had been a back-and-forth contest up to that point.

But the Nerazzurri had shown just how formidable their attack can be, giving themselves a two-goal cushion in what had been nothing short of a shootout up to that point.

Therefore, the situation would seem to have called for a cagier approach from that point on.

But that is hardly what Inter did. Quite the opposite in fact.

Rather than trying to slow the match down, or retreat a bit to dig in and defend, Inter just kept pushing for more goals.

That ended up being a big gamble. Inter did not score again after Dumfries netted their fourth, but Juventus substitute Kenan Yildiz scored twice to erase their advantage.

Condo: “Inter Made A Big Error” Letting Juventus Clash Get Away From Them

Italian journalist Condo writes that “Inter and Juventus fought like boxers with their guard down.”

He characterizes the two teams’ approach to the match as “Let’s see who has more and be patient with the blows.”

“It produced a quantity (and quality) of goalscoring opportunities that are normally found in an entire matchday.”

“Inter didn’t win the match, even though they scored four goals against a defense that had conceded just once in the previous eight matches.”

“Inter made an error in how they read the match,” Condo argues.

“Just as important as the four goals were four misses that made it seem like the match was on the verge of a 5-2 scoreline,” Condo argues.

“This probably lulled Inter into thinking Juventus were on the verge of collapse.”
