As the end of the 24/25 season approaches Manchester City are busy planning for the summer transfer window. Several positions do need to be strengthened in Pep Guardiola’s squad. One of those could be the goalkeeper position. Based on recent reports it seems that the world champions are busy making moves to address the goalkeeping situation. Question marks surround the futures of Ederson and Stefan Ortega. If one were to depart Manchester City this summer they will need to sign a new keeper. It does appear to be a situation that City are addressing based on a new report.

First of all, Simon Mullock has reported for the Mirror that Bayer Leverkusen have an interest in signing Stefan Ortega this summer. Furthermore, Mullock reports that Bayer Leverkusen officials recently visited the Etihad campus to discuss signing James McAtee and Stefan Ortega this summer. Mullock further reports that Stefan Ortega could be open to a move to Bayer Leverkusen to play more often next season.

Second of all, it has previously been reported on Esteemed Kompany that Ederson is likely to leave Manchester City this summer. The Brazilian international has attracted interest from Saudi Pro League clubs and across Europe. Ederson’s future is another story to watch for over the coming weeks. If he decides to leave City will need to find another goalkeeper. The Stefan Ortega situation also clouds the situation unfolding at the Etihad.

Manchester City may already be making moves to bring in a new goalkeeper.

A new report from Steve Kay for Football Transfers that Manchester City have begun talks with Benfica keeper Anatoliy Trubin. Furthermore, Kay reports that negotiations are underway for City to sign Trubin. Kay further reports that City are prepared to pay €25 million for the Ukrainian international. Benfica are demanding €40 million to sell their number-one keeper.

Based on all of the available reports it appears that Manchester City are attempting to get in front of the unfolding goalkeeper situation at the club. That is a smart move from the world champions. They don’t want to be caught out if Ederson and Stefan Ortega do seek moves elsewhere this summer. Manchester City do need to undertake a sizable rebuild this summer. They can’t afford to be caught out with any of their planning. Based on Steve Kay’s report it seems that City are on the front foot in their search for a keeper. Anatoliy Trubin could be the player City has identified to come in if Ederson or Stefan Ortega do depart the club.

Manchester City’s goalkeeping situation is one story to monitor this summer. It’s a fluid situation and it has the potential to continue to develop over the coming months.
