Over the past few weeks, there has been considerable talk about Florian Wirtz and Jamal Musiala linking up at Bayern Munich next season.
While Der Rekordmeister have made it no secret that they wish to reunite the two at club level in the summer of 2025, Julian Nagelsmann, the head coach of the German national team, has also stated that he could imagine the pair working together at the Allianz Arena.
However, the former Bayern midfielder and Sky Germany expert, Didi Hamann, has suggested that the record champions should only focus on securing the long-term future of one of the players.
With Jamal Musiala’s contract set to expire in 2026, Bayern are looking to tie the 21-year-old down to a new long-term deal before luring Wirtz away from Bayer Leverkusen.
Nevertheless, in a recent column for Sky Germany, Hamann suggested that Bayern would be better off selling Musiala and signing Wirtz as his replacement:
“Musiala is more of a solo player and often a solo entertainer. If he gets the ball ten times, he puts his head down nine times and starts dribbling.”
“With Musiala, you can play successful football, but if you look at the past few years, Bayern were mostly dependent on individual actions. That also has something to do with Musiala. Apart from him, there is hardly a player in the number ten position in world football who is a pure one-on-one player. The flow of the game also suffers as a result.”
“If I could swap Wirtz and Musiala from Bayern’s point of view, I would do it tomorrow. Wirtz is a player who can put Boniface, Frimpong, or Adli in the spotlight.”
Despite this, there is no guarantee that Bayern will be able to sign Wirtz in 2025.
With Real Madrid looking to go head-to-head with Der Rekordmeister for his signature, the decision will ultimately lie with the German international, but Vincent Kompany’s side will do what they can to make a deal possible.
