Manchester United’s inefficiency in front of goal has been the biggest worry for Ruben Amorim this season and the head coach naturally wants a ruthless finisher in the summer.
Joshua Zirkzee, signed last summer, has excelled more as a attacking midfielder who can link up play than finish off chances while Rasmus Hojlund’s form has been nothing short of shocking.
The Dane has three Premier League goals all season while his back-to-goal play has been atrocious. The Portuguese tactician needs a lot more from his frontman which is why INEOS are mulling over a loan exit in the summer.
While Victor Osimhen and Viktor Gyokeres are the coach’s preferred options, the transfer budget will ultimately dictate which players the club can sign this summer.
If Champions League football cannot be achieved, then the co-owners might be forced to recruit young players with potential to grow, which explains United’s links with Ipswich Town’s Liam Delap.
The former Manchester City starlet could be available on the cheap, especially if the Tractor Boys go down, which looks inevitable at this stage.
Kieran McKenna will be desperate to find the perfect replacement so that they can bounce straight back up and they have identified Sheffield United’s Ryan One as that player.
Interestingly, The Daily Mail have claimed that the Scottish talent is also on United’s radar as they look to strengthen their academy recruitment.
“United are looking at more young players with higher potential as they look to build a stronger infrastructure beneath first team level.
“They have also checked on Sheffield United’s 18-year old Ryan One though Ipswich Town are expected to bid this summer.
“Striker One is viewed as a possible replacement for Liam Delap who is top of Manchester United’s wish list this summer owing to his £30m clause if Ipswich go down.”
The 18-year-old has made three starts for the Blades this season and has one goal to his name. His “powerful” frame and “explosive” style has meant lots of English top-flight teams have eyed him over the years.
It will be intriguing to see if Ipswich getting their man might make it easier for United to get One or if the 20-time English league champions end up getting both.
