Phil Foden started for England as Thomas Tuchel’s reign as the new manager kicked off with a 2-0 victory over Albania.
The German took charge of the Three Lions for the first time in the opening game of Group K of the World Cup qualifiers at Wembley.
Arsenal’s Myles Lewis-Skelley scored the opening goal on his debut when he tucked home Jude Bellingham’s throughball.
Harry Kane, Bellingham and Dan Burn all went close to doubling England’s lead before the break.
But Albania, managed by former City defender Sylvinho with Pablo Zabaleta as his assistant, were well-organised and difficult to break down.
Foden started as a right winger and was replaced by West Ham’s Jarrod Bowen in the 74th minute.
And England finally got a second three minutes later when Kane slotted home his 70th goal for his country.
City team-mates James McAtee and Rico Lewis were also in action for England as the under-21s travelled to France for a friendly.
And just over 90 seconds into the game, McAtee put the Three Lions ahead when he pounced on a loose ball from a corner to smash the ball into the roof of the net.
France struck twice in the next five minutes through Quentin Merlin and Hugo Ekitike, who added a second on 35 minutes.
McAtee’s clever header teed up Harvey Elliott to make it 3-2 before Ekitike completed his hat-trick for the home side.
But England kept pushing and a sumptuous McAtee chip hit the inside of the far post with Liam Delap quickest to the rebound to score.
And they had the chance to pull level when Lewis was tripped by Chrislain Matsima to earn a penalty, but Elliott blasted over from the spot.
Rayan Cherki then scored for the French as they secured a 5-3 victory at Lorient’s home ground.
