Inter lost their lead over Napoli due to the Bologna loss and will be in a predicament ahead of the Roma clash next week, as Alessandro Bastoni and Henrikh Mkhitaryan will be suspended because of yellow-card accumulation.
The meeting will be sandwiched between the return leg of the Coppa Italia derby and the first one versus Barcelona in the Champions League. The defender has missed just one game so far this season, while he has been rested twice early. Instead, the veteran skipped two in a row due to a small muscular problem in mid-January and has been completely spared only on three occasions. He has started in 15 of the last 17 matches.
While Inter surely won’t have Bastoni and Mkhitaryan against Roma, they are hoping for good news from the infirmary. Simone Inzaghi provided some injury updates in his post-game presser (via SOSFanta).
“We’re used to not having important players. We hope Marcus Thuram, Piotr Zielinski, and Denzel Dumfries will be back soon. They are trying to accelerate their recoveries. There’s a chance that they’ll be available against the Giallorossi.”
The Frenchman missed the Bologna bout due to muscle fatigue. The gaffer has already ruled him out for Wednesday’s cup fixture. Instead, the dynamic wing-back has missed the past six games due to a thigh strain.
Most of the credit for their last stumble goes to the opponents, but the busy schedule and the lack of quality in their deputies in a pair of key roles are catching up with them.
