Inter Milan vice-president Javier Zanetti insists his compatriot Lautaro Martinez is adamant about staying at the club despite interest from other clubs.

The 26-year-old has been at Appiano Gentile since making the move from Racing Club in 2018.

The striker gradually cemented himself as a pillar at the club, and even inherited the captain’s armband last summer.

A few weeks ago, there were some growing concerns over the skipper’s future with the Nerazzurri as talks between the two parties had stalled.

However, the player himself intervened, instructing his manager to find an agreement with the Italian champions.

The two parties are now expected to put pen to paper in the coming weeks, signing a contract until 2029.

For his part, former Inter captain Zanetti reveals his successor’s desire to win more trophies with the Nerazzzurri.

“When you have great players in your squad it’s normal to attract the attention of other top clubs,” said the 50-year-old in his interview with TYC Sports via FcInterNews.

“Lauti has been with us for six years and is very close to us. He shows it on and off the pitch. He is the captain and reference point to others.

“Lautaro has said many times that he feels well at the club and wants to continue winning trophies with Inter.”

Javier Zanetti Insists Lautaro Martinez Is Determined To Stay At Inter Milan

Martinez has started on the bench in Argentina’s first two Copa America fixtures. However, he came off the bench to score on both occasions.

Therefore, Zanetti believes that the striker’s hard work is paying off.

“The important thing is that he had the opportunities. All attackers have their highs and lows, but when they score, everything becomes much easier for them.

“Now the door has reopened and he must be very happy. He is a lad who likes to work hard and that is now paying off, because he is scoring important goals.
