Javier Zanetti says that Inter Milan are “convinced” by Cristian Chivu as their new coach, and will do “everything possible” to have a top summer transfer window.

Speaking to reporters at the Festival della Serie A, via FCInterNews, the Nerazzurri Vice-President expressed optimism regarding the Romanian.

Inter Milan are on the verge of naming Cristian Chivu as their new coach.

The Nerazzurri have had to wait for the Romanian to officially end his association with Parma. But now he has terminated his contract, and is free to join the Nerazzurrri.

Chivu was not the only name that was reportedly on Inter’s shortlist of coaches to replace Simone Inzaghi, who has left to join Al-Hilal.

Inter had been working on snapping up Cesc Fabregas to become Inzaghi’s successor.

However, Como President Mirwan Suwarson strongly rebuffed the Nerazzurri’s interest, and stated that the Lariani would refuse to release the Spaniard.

Meanwhile, Genoa coach Patrick Vieira was another name reportedly on Inter’s shortlist.

But it is Chivu who will have the task of trying to inherit the legacy of Inzaghi on the Inter bench.

Inter Milan Vice-President Javier Zanetti commented that “we’re looking forward with a coach who we’re convinced by, and who knows this environment.”

Zanetti continued that “the prerequisites are all there to do well.”

“Now we have to do a great job all together.”

As far as what Chivu can bring to the team as coach, the Inter Vice-President stated that “I believe Cristian is a great guy.”

“He has a great personality. And he shows a strong sense of belonging here.”

Then, Zanetti also gave his thoughts on the summer transfer window.

“We’ll certainly do everything possible to create a really competitive team,” he said.

“Now we’ll talk to the coach to understand what he needs. But that’s the idea.”
