One of the most heavily anticipated fixtures in the European schedule pits two former European champions against each other.

Therefore, everyone is expecting this clash with bated breath as the quarter-final stage gets underway this evening.

After easing past Feyenoord in the last knockout round, the Italian giants face a much more formidable proposition in the last-eight.

Indeed, Inter will be out to avenge a brace of 2-0 defeats from the 2022/23 group stages.

In search of good omens, Simone Inzaghi led the Nerazzurri to the grand final that season.

However, Francesco Acerbi knows better than to let past achievements lull the team into a false sense of security.

“It’s a tough match, both the first leg and the return,” Acerbi stated. “In games like this, the smallest details make the difference.

“We’ll have to be smart in pushing up as a team, not spending ninety minutes pinned in our own half.

“We’ll need to defend well and make the most of the chances we get.

“It’s a game that’s both incredibly exciting and very difficult to play.”

Inter head into proceedings boasting the best defensive record at Europe’s top table this season.

Indeed, Inzaghi’s sturdy backline only capitulated twice in ten Champions League outings.

Acerbi admitted the Nerazzurri must defend like a unit to fend off Harry Kane and his comrades.

“Even Bayern defend with practically ten men,” he added. “We have to defend as a unit because they have some truly top-class players – just like we do.

“We’ll need to defend all together, with great focus.”
