Inter Milan have a youth academy system, and have brought plenty of players through it.

However, one thing that the Nerazzurri have not had is a second time. That could allow young players to get experience in senior football without either playing for the first team, or going out on loan.

By contrast, Juventus and AC Milan have had such teams for several years. The Bianconeri have the Next Gen team, and the Rossoneri have Milan Futuro.

These teams have given plenty of young players big opportunities to develop, and even offered them a pathway into the first team.

Therefore, Inter are behind their biggest rivals in that respect.

However, that won’t be the case for much longer.

Of the Bianconeri’s Next Gen team, Inter President Beppe Marotta noted that “the experiment at Juve started while I was there.”

“And now it’s borne fruit,” he noted.

“The idea was to create a tool to expand the first team squad,” Marotta said. “By drawing from the reserves.”

“The gap between the Under-20s and the senior team is one that’s really felt,” he noted.

“Having a buffer means reducing the gap.”

“Inter will have a second team next season,” Beppe Marotta made clear. “100%, as long as there is the possibility of playing in the Lega Pro [Serie B].”

The Nerazzurri President then added that “we’ll most likely play at the Brianteo in Monza, and train at Interello.”
