Beppe Marotta says that winning the Champions League at Inter Milan is “a dream” and a new contract for Simone Inzaghi is “a formality.”
The Nerazzurri President gave his thoughts in an interview with Sky Sport Italia, via FCInterNews. He also gave his thoughts on captain Lautaro Martinez, and this weekend’s match against Bologna.
Inter Milan took a big step forward in the Champions League this week.
The Nerazzurri got a 2-2 draw with Bayern Munich at the quarterfinal stage of the competition.
This was as good as a win for Inter. They were protecting a 2-1 advantage from the first leg of the tie.
Therefore, Inter will face Barcelona in the semifinals.
Then, if the Nerazzurri should reach the final, they will face one of either Paris Saint-Germain or Arsenal.

Inter President Marotta admitted that “clearly, winning the Champions League is perhaps the only thing missing in my career.”
“Therefore, it would be immensely satisfying for me.”
“I consider it a dream,” Marotta said of European glory. “But since dreams often come true, we have to believe in it.”
“However, I’m certain that this team can make us happy. We certainly don’t start out at a disadvantage against Barcelona.”

Then, Marotta confidently predicted that Simone Inzaghi will sign a new contract with Inter, a “formality.”
“He still has another year left on his contract,” the Inter President noted. “But from here, my mentality is that it’s right for a coach not to be on an expiring contract.”
“So we’ll certainly sit down with him to work out a new contract.”
“But I’m sure it will be a quick, pleasant meeting,” said the Nerazzurri President. “As it has been in the past.”
“We will find an agreement calmly.”

Marotta also gave the view that the extension of Inter captain Lautaro Martinez’s contract last summer was a key element for the Argentine’s recent form.
“The contract he signed sealed, above all, a relationship between the club and player based on a strong sense of problem,” said the Inter President.
“Sealed by the fact that he’s our captain. Therefore, he must have qualities even greater than his teammates.”
“I believe that he’s grown,” Marotta said of Lautaro Martinez. “And not only as a footballer.”
“As someone who has an opportunity to see him every day, I can say that he’s grown as a man. And today, he’s truly out leader.”
“Without forgetting the other players, he’s one who’s had an exponential growth.”

And Marotta gave further thoughts about Inter’s coach. “I still consider Inzaghi a young coach,” said the Nerazzurri President.
“However, he’s accumulated a lot of values and qualities within himself.”
These include “being a winner, or at least always seeking to win.”
“And this certainly puts him in an important role. That of being a good coach from a tactical point of view, but also from the point of view of preparation.”
“He’s equally good at managing a group that’s been with him for a few years now,” Marotta praised Inzaghi.
“And in turn, it’s grown over the last few years. It’s acquired a different mentality compared to the beginning.”
The Inter President said that this is “the result of the experience they’ve gone through – including the defeats.”
“But I believe that this group has been able to seize opportunities to grow from losses.”

Meanwhile, Inter President Marotta gave his thoughts on this Sunday’s Serie A clash with Bologna.
He argued the Serie A season “is still at an interlocutory point.”
“There are still a lot of points left to play for. Therefore, anything can still happen.”
“However, it will still be a fundamental match for us,” Marotta said of taking on Bologna this weekend.
“Because we’re playing against a team who are perhaps the form team in all of Serie A at the moment.”
“We’re recovering from a tremendous amount of psychological and physical stress,” Marotta went on.
“Because qualifying for the semifinals against Bayern is the result of a huge sacrifice.”
“And immense self-denial on the part of the entire team and the coaching stuff.”
“But we have to be champions to the end,” Marotta insisted.
“And know that this role means that we have to surpass ourselves, by taking on quality teams in different competitions, from one day to the next.”
“Bologna are certainly one such team. Therefore, we must begin from that idea.”

And of balancing different competitions, Marotta said that “we’re Inter.”
“We have a history behind us. And a long list of successes in all the competitions that we’re currently in today.”
“So it’s mandatory for us to say that we’re participating in these competitions to try and win.”
“And even now, we’re still only at the intermediate point in them.”
“On Sunday, going from one competition to another, we have another match in Bologna,” Marotta said.
“In my opinion, that will be the most important match of the year for us. Against a team who will, in turn, consider the match equally important for themselves.”
“We’re playing for a part of the title,” Marotta said. “But Inter are used to this.
“They have to get even more used to playing every three days in competitions of this level.”

Inter Milan President Beppe Marotta called being in the Champions Leaguse semifinal “a great source of pride for the club, for our fans, for our owners, and above all, for our coach.”
He argued that Simone Inzaghi “deserves great credit for this result.”
“And it’s a great source of pride for the team as well.”
“So this is a particularly happy moment for us,” Marotta said. “But it’s not the end of the journey, where we’re still fighting in three competitions.”
But the Nerazzurri President insisted that “regardless of what the final result is, I think it should be considered a very positive season.”
The Inter President added that “it’s the continuation of a journey that began a few years ago, and therefore a cycle.”
“Above all, the cycle continues with the arrival of Inzaghi. He’s made us among the top teams in European competition as never before, and that flatters us greatly.
“And we’re also at the top in Italy. And therefore, I believe that this season should be considered positively.”
