Alessandro Bastoni says that Inter Milan’s formidable left-sided chemistry is the result of “obsessive work” on the training ground.

The 25-year-old defender spoke to Italian broadcaster DAZN, via FCInterNews, during the trophy presentation for the Serie A title after a draw against Lazio.

This season, Inter have looked like a truly well-oiled machine.

And perhaps this has not been evident anywhere more than it has been on the team’s left side.

There has not always been the exact same combination of players on that flank. Carlos Augusto has played a number of matches, both at left-wingback and on the left of the back three.

But the three first-choice starters have been Bastoni, Federico Dimarco, and Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

The aspect that has really made that left flank function as well as it does is how the players cover for one another.

All of Bastoni, Dimarco, and Mkhitaryan are capable of getting forward.

Any of the trio can take up positions in attacking midfield, on the wing, or in and around the penalty area.

On the other hand, all three know when to stay back and defend the spaces that their teammates have vacated in order to be in a more attacking position.

Alessandro Bastoni: Inter Left Side The Result Of “Obsessive Work”

Defender Bastoni admitted that “Sometimes I don’t even know what position I’m playing.”

“That’s the way modern football is,” the 24-year-old Italy international continued.

“It’s the result of the obsessive work that we do with the coach on the training ground.”

Bastoni said that “The harmony on the left side is the result of work that we started years ago.”

Meanwhile, the former Atalanta and Parma defender also said that “I’m very happy,” about the Serie A title.

“At the start of the season, we really wanted to win the title,” he added.

“Everyone deserves it. I’m really happy.”
