Inter coach Simone Inzaghi has made clear that he is not motivated by any sort of desire for revenge on his critics, and that he only wants to work for what’s best for the team.
Speaking to Italian broadcaster SportMediaset following the Nerazzurri’s 2-0 win over Benfica in the Champions League, via FCInterNews, the 47-year-old gave his reaction to a massive win for his team, and denied that he’s thinking about getting one over on his doubters.
This evening’s win was certainly a massive win for Inter, and it could also be construed as an equally important result for Inzaghi.
The coach has increasingly come under fire after the Nerazzurri have gone six matches without a win in all competitions.
The former Lazio coach has always defended his work, and also that of his players, and has tended to express an optimistic tone that if they keep heading in the right direction then eventually the results can come.
However, the fact that so many results have gone against Inzaghi and Inter recently has meant that it has become increasingly difficult for him to avoid the criticisms, as well as speculation about his future.
“I’m not looking for revenge, I’m just working for the good of Inter,” the 47-year-old said, “I know where the criticisms come from, but we just have to keep working harder and better.”
Of the match in Lisbon, he said that “The guys played a great match against a strong team, and in a real cauldron of a stadium at the da Luz.”
“I’m very satisfied with the match,” he continued, “but it was only the first leg.”
“We have the advantage, but nothing is finished yet because Benfica are a strong side.”
“The last few matches hadn’t been rewarded with wins, but they were three good performances,” the coach continued. “this is the fourth match in ten days, we’re dealing with a lot of fatigue at the moment.”
