Inter Milan captain Lautaro Martinez admits he might be going through his “worst moment” of form at the moment.
The Argentine spoke in a press conference ahead of tomorrow’s Supercoppa Italiana semifinal against AC Milan, as reported by FCInterNews. He stressed that Inter winning is still the most important thing, no matter his own form.
Inter captain Martinez may have hoped that his goal against Cagliari last weekend was a turning point.
The 27-year-old ended a run of nearly two months without a goal in an Inter shirt.
Therefore, the hope was that this would be something Martinez could build a real scoring run upon.
However, so far that has not proven to be the case in 2025.
Martinez failed to find the back of the net against Atalanta in the Supercoppa semifinal. That was despite some good chances.
The Inter captain will aim to rectify that in the final against Milan tomorrow.
Of the difference between this goal drought and others in the past Martinez said “at first” it was different.
“Because I hadn’t had time to rest much. I didn’t have the preseason I wanted.”
“But now I’m feeling different,” Martinez said.
“I’ve gone through moments like this,” the Nerazzurri captain went on. “But in my opinion this is the worst on,” he said with a wink.
“But I feel like I’m getting back to my best.”
Martinez stressed that “I’m calm, even if the goal doesn’t come.”
“I have other teammates who are scoring,” the Argentine noted. “Inter has to win, and that’s the only thing that matters.”
Of his teammates trying to get him on the scoresheet, Martinez said “It makes me happy.”
“Because they also recognize the work that I do for the team.”
“When I don’t score I always try to make my contribution elsewhere,” the Inter captain noted. “And I’m doing so.”
“So I’m happy,” said Martinez.
Heading into tomorrow’s final against Milan, Martinez said that “We’ve recovered our energy.”
“But there are still two training sessions to go.”
“As a group, and as a team, we’re doing well,” the Inter captain said.
“And that’s important. Because we’re up against a strong team.”
Martinez noted that “Milan are the only team to have beaten us in the league.”
“It will be a good match for us,” the 27-year-old said. “We’ll prepare to try and bring the trophy home, which is what we all want.”
