Ahead of Inter and Bayern Munich renewing rivalries in the Champions League this week, former Inter hero Wesley Sneijder has recalled how Louis van Gaal's premature celebrating fired his side to a famous success in the past.
Sneijder and co defeated Bayern in the final in 2010 but lost 1-0 in their quarter-final rematch a year later - leading to an interesting altercation in the tunnel afterwards, prior to Inter's epic 3-2 win in Bavaria, courtesy of a last minute Goran Pandev strike.
As part of Just Eat's Legendary Table at San Siro, Sneijder and former team-mate Marco Materazzi sat down to reflect on their memories of that showdown.
"When I got back into the tunnel after that [loss], [Louis] Van Gaal was walking just in front of me with [Arjen] Robben and [Franck] Ribery and he was laughing out loud saying 'we've got them' but I heard everything!" Sneijder said.
"I told him 'hey coach, you've won 1-0 here but we have another game to play in Munich' and he just kept laughing saying it would be easy.
"We won 3-2 there."
