Manchester United have been dealt an early blow in their pursuit of a summer 2025 transfer target.
Indeed, the Red Devils had begun hoping they could strike up a deal for Bayern Munich’s world-class fullback, Alphonso Davies.
The ‘unbelievable’ Canadian is attracting interest across Europe due to his contract expiring at the Allianz Arena next June. As it stands, there are no negotiations taking place between him or Bayern regarding new terms – much to the club’s dismay.
Losing a player of such calibre would come as a tremendous upset for the Bundesliga giants. They forked out only €14 million (£11.5m) when signing Davies from the Vancouver Whitecaps in 2018, at the time setting a new record transfer fee in Major League Soccer.

Nonetheless, TeamTalk has reported today that the 24-year-old is open to reuniting with former manager Hansi Flick at Barcelona – despite their fierce rivals Real Madrid being tipped as front-runners in the race for Davies’ signature.
Flick has enjoyed a scintillating start to his tenure with the Blaugrana; they sit atop the La Liga table after scoring a remarkable 40 goals in their opening 13 matches, conceding only 12 in response. They’re also sixth-placed in the new-look Champions League standings, having won three of their four contests thus far.
Reuniting with a former flame at a side that’s seemingly on the up will undoubtedly pose a lucrative option for Davies while he considers the next stage of his career. On the other hand, joining United while they’re at the very beginning of a new project with yet another new face in the dugout is undoubtedly a risky move – although it would give himself the chance to play an integral role under Ruben Amorim and be a fundamental figure in the new era at Old Trafford.
