Paris Saint-Germain, for the fourth time in six years, have reached the Champions League semi-final after they eliminated Aston Villa (5-4 on aggregate) on Tuesday evening.
This year, the competition’s nearly men will be hoping that they can reach what would be only their second ever Champions League final, but first they must navigate a two-legged tie against Arsenal.
Luis Enrique, when asked in today’s press conference about what his goals have been since arriving in Paris in the summer of 2023, was direct. “I don’t consider myself successful,” the PSG head coach said, “I’m here to write history and do all I can to win this famous trophy.”
The Champions League has long been the holy grail for Les Parisiens, and success (or lack thereof) in the competition has often defined the future of the club’s managers. There is hope in the capital club that they are on the right track following some impressive performances in the knockout stages.
However, they are well aware of the difficulty in facing an Arsenal side that dominated the holders Real Madrid across two legs. The two teams will meet on the 29th of April at the Emirates (where PSG have already lost earlier this season during the league phase).
