Former Arsenal and West Ham star Luis Boa Morte is among the several candidates looking to succeed Mark Robins following his shock sacking last week.

Many names have been thrown around surrounding Coventry City's new boss, but Luis Boa Morte is one you probably didn't expect to see.

According to Coventry Live, the former Premier League star and current assistant to Marco Silva at Fulham is said to want the Sky Blues post.

The 28-capped Portuguese has only thus far taken management of two clubs, in 2017/18 with Portuguese fourth tier side Sintrense, and is currently Guinea-Bissau head coach alongside his duties at Fulham.

A strange situation for Coventry, but would he be welcomed at the Sky Blues if appointed?

'A name that won't excite me' - Coventry claim on potential of bizarre Boa Morte appointment

FLW's Coventry City fan pundit, Ryan Murphy, has questioned Boa Morte succeeding Mark Robins as he's given his thoughts on the potential of welcoming him to Cov.

"In regard to Luis Boa Morte, it wouldn't be a name I'd expect us to go for or a name that's going to excite me or many Coventry fans, to be honest.

"I think it's going to be one or the other. It's going to be a big name that gets people talking and fans excited, like the Frank Lampard's that have been mentioned and so on, but it will either be an experienced manager that's been in this division, done it before, like a Dean Smith, someone of that calibre.

"An experienced manager will have promotions under their belt, knows the league inside out and someone that fans can be optimistic about having a chance of going up a level.

"So I'd be very shocked if Doug King called a call as big as this and got someone in like Luis Boa Morte."

Coventry should prefer experience over a big name

To get rid of someone like Robins and replace him with an unproven big name in Boa Morte would certainly be a decision by Coventry that you'd scratch your head at.

No doubt he's doing a good job under Silva at Fulham, but it is a massive step for someone who has barely experienced the position of a manager.

Lampard's appointment could be understandable, as, although he doesn't have much experience, he did a brilliant job with Derby County and had signs of promise with Chelsea, and a name like Lampard will no doubt help Cov's coverage.

However, they shouldn't be focusing on how they can benefit from a media standpoint and instead look at someone like Dean Smith.

Smith is proven at this level and is similar to that of Robins in achieving accomplishments in the Championship.

If Boa Morte did become Robins' successor it would be an incredibly rogue way of pursuing things after the sacking of a manager who spent over seven seasons at the club.

Coventry need experience to revitalise the fan base and the squad, and you can't deny that appointing Boa Morte wouldn't be the right choice.
