Enzo Maresca doesn’t believe the current goalkeeping situation at Chelsea could be a problem for the development of Filip Jorgensen.
Jorgensen joined from Villarreal in the summer in a deal worth £20.7m to provide competition and challenge Robert Sanchez for the number one spot.
The 22-year-old has had to be patient for opportunities and he’s started just two league games this season, although he is the club’s Conference League keeper.
Sanchez has been the number one this season, but the Spaniard is coming under increasing pressure, and was booed by Chelsea supporters after his latest costly error against Manchester City.
Maresca has publicly backed the Spain international on a number of occasions this season, but is coming under pressure to drop him for Monday night’s game against West Ham.
The Italian confirmed in his pre-match press conference he hadn’t taken the decision on who would start in goal, but it’s unlikely to go down well with supporters if Sanchez keeps his place in the team.

Given the poor form of Sanchez, Jorgensen must be wondering what he has to do to get a run in the team, and the Dane has impressed when he’s played this season.
Jorgensen no doubt deserves a run in the side now, but Maresca has confirmed he’s not concerned about his development when asked about the current situation.
“I don’t think so because the first time I spoke with Filip in June or July, I don’t remember, I was clear that the number one choice was Robert,” he told his pre-match press conference.
“For sure, if the number one is Robert and then because we have two good goalkeepers, we can make some different decisions.

“This doesn’t mean that Robert can make a mistake every game and is always going to play. The number one choice was Robert and we will see on Monday.”
It will be very interesting to see what decision Maresca makes on Monday, but it feels like it’s only a matter of time until Jorgensen gets the nod.
