It’s amazing what a Toon win can do for one’s morale, though I almost ruined Burns Night on Saturday because I ended up getting plastered.
I had met Auld Ellas and his wife Shirley, along with my big Scottish buddy JP, in Tynemouth Club at about 1pm.
The drink was soon flowing and I thanked my lucky stars that I had already prepped the haggis and neeps.
Just over two hours later and Newcastle United were a goal down but I didn’t have a care in the World. I knew we’d bounce straight back.
We’re good you see, I knew the Bournemouth result was no more than a blip.
Before half-time the Toon were back in the ascendancy after yet another ‘Alexander the Great’ brace.
Cue a taxi around the corner to mine and even more malt, merriment, beer, wine and song.
Sandro Tonali put the icing on the cake in the second half and Eddie and the Hotrods had ventured back out onto the road in style.
There is a pattern and pecking order forming at the top of the EPL and United are right in the mix.
I must give another shout out to Andoni Iraola’s Bournemouth who hammered high-flying Nottingham Forest 5-0 at the Vitality Stadium.
The Cherries are now level on points with Chelsea and only a point behind Newcastle United and Man City, with a small but notable gap emerging between the top seven and the rest.
Newcastle leapfrogged Chelsea to move into 5th place level on points with Pep’s Man City and a win next week against Fulham at St James’ Park would really set us up nicely for the rest of the season.
I think we are destined to qualify for next season’s Champions League.
I fell asleep and ended up having haggis and neeps for my breakfast on Sunday morning, then decided to have a day in the house and a couple of blended whiskies to take in some more of the football action.
As I listened to the Wolves v Arsenal game and then absorbed the controversial aftermath, I realised that the Gunners are now the club that I probably despise the most.
I think it has been like this since cry baby Arteta and the awful Arsenal hierachy, publicly and shamefully spat their dummies out after Anthony Gordon’s winning goal at Gallowgate in November 2023.
Along with their friends and former players in the media, they just wouldn’t let that go, they were still bleating on about the so-called injustice of Gordon’s goal over a year later.
In effect, you could say that result cost Arsenal the title last season and if that is really the case, then it was bloody lovely wasn’t it?
After Fulham in the league we’ll play the second leg of our Carabao Cup semi-final against the North London prima donnas.
After the first leg at the Emirates the score read Arsenal 0 Newcastle United 2.
I see no reason why we cannot finish the job off in style under the lights at St James’ Park, to secure our second Carabao/League Cup Final in three seasons (*Howay the administration, you’ve got a week left to get Malcolm Macdonald out onto the pitch as guest of honour).
If/when we hopefully book our place at Wembley, we could even get Supermac back out to lead a lap of honour with Alexander Isak.
Now that would be special to behold, sending those Gunners back down to “Norf Larndarn” with something to really whinge about.
