One journalist has claimed that he has recently spoken to people inside Chelsea and has put out what the club officials are briefing journalists.
Chelsea love a good briefing, right? They seem to do a lot of them! But they haven’t had much to say after Chelsea’s 3-0 defeat to Brighton on Friday night which follows a defeat against the same side in the FA Cup the week before. Things are gloomy indeed.
Chelsea’s defeat against Brighton on Friday night has been named as the ‘worst performance’ under Enzo Maresca so far, and they are not wrong with that analysis at all.
There has been plenty of debate over who is to blame for how bad Chelsea are right now, with fingers being pointed at not just Maresca, but at the sporting directors who built this squad, as well as directly at the club owners. And the stats have backed up that all three have to share the blame right now.
Apparently, it’s calm at the moment, but only at the moment…
Enzo Maresca looks clueless on the bench at Brighton.
According to the journalist Mike Keegan, people inside Chelsea have been briefing that the only goal this season is to get Champions League football.
“I spoke to people inside Chelsea after this. And just so you know, what’s the situation like? What are people thinking there?” Keegan said.
Is there any pressure? And the message really is that this season is all about qualification for the Champions League. The one point away from it, yes, they’re in the midst of a bad spell.
They’ve had horrendous injuries like certain other clubs. And there’s no panic. If you’re a Chelsea fan, Chris, is that, is Champions League football this season, is that a success for a club the size of Chelsea?”
