Lecce sporting director Pantaleo Corvino has revealed that his side received offers for Leeds United target Nikola Krstovic in January, but made it clear that if the player does not ask to be let go, they will not sell him.
The Whites are now back in the top flight after a brilliant season in the Championship, and now they are preparing to stay above the dotted line.
They will need to make sure that Daniel Farke’s side score enough goals in the Premier League, and a striker is high on their agenda, amongst other positions.
Lecce’s Montenegro hitman Krstovic is a player they have been linked with in recent days regarding a potential switch.
I Giallorossi supremo Corvino revealed that Lecce received offers for him in the winter window, which he said were substantial enough.
The 75-year-old Italian insisted that Lecce are a very healthy club and players are only sold when they communicate that they want to depart.
“Since we are a healthy club, I can tell you that if no one asks us to leave, we do not sell anyone”, Corvino said via Italian outlet Tutto Mercato about the Leeds target.
“In January, we had important requests for him, which would have been useful for our project, but we are so healthy that if a player does not want to leave, we keep him, but if tomorrow the same player tells me he wants to be sold, we try to satisfy him.
“As well as those who have been here longer, because we cannot allow players who stay here against their will.
“We need an intense team willing to fight for the objective”.
Leeds have prioritised bringing a striker, and they must dig deep in their pockets to bring a striker who can be able to come into the Premier League to score goals regularly.
Krstovic’s contract does not end until the summer of 2027, and it remains to be seen if the Whites will make their attempt to convince the player to join them.
The Montenegro striker started 37 Serie A games last season, scoring eleven times and assisting five times in the process.
Leece, though, have a clear stance on Krstovic that they do not want to let the 25-year-old striker leave ahead of the new season if it can be avoided.
