Carlton Palmer believes that Dejphon Chansiri should back Danny Rohl this January or he may depart in the near future.
Sheffield Wednesday are surprising a few in the Championship so far this season.
Last campaign was a real struggle for the Owls as they flirted with relegation for almost the entirety of the season. Danny Rohl arrived in October 2023 and had an incredibly tough task on his hands, but he managed to steer the ship and take them clear of the drop zone.
Rohl is considered one of the best up-and-coming managers in the EFL after his heroics last season, and he is really beginning to shine in the 2024/25 campaign.
Sheffield Wednesday currently sit 11th in the table after a mixed bag of results, but it is a huge improvement from last season, as they find themselves 12 points clear of the drop zone at the midway point of the campaign.
Rohl's job at Sheffield Wednesday should be considered a project, and therefore the expectations can not be too high at this stage. Having said that, it is vital that he is backed by the ownership, in order to oversee progression.
Following Sheffield Wednesday's 3-1 defeat to Preston North End, Danny Rohl made a revelation that will have many Owls fans concerned about the near future.
When asked if he is in a position to be clear about what he can and can't do in the winter window, he simply answered, "No".
Then, he quickly revealed that 'at the moment, there is no conversation', between himself and Chairman, Dejphon Chansiri.
Despite Sheffield Wednesday's positive start to the season, there will be concerns about the relationship between Rohl and Chansiri.
Former Owls star and current pundit, Carlton Palmer, spoke exclusively to FLW to discuss Sheffield Wednesday's current status and the importance of backing Danny Rohl.
"Sheffield Wednesday did unbelievably well last season under Danny Rohl to stay in the league. They did bring in an awful lot of players, they had a massive overhaul at the football club in terms of the playing staff and what they brought in.
"They're on 33 points, in 11th place in the Championship. They're not in any danger of relegation and are only four points off the play-off places, so I can see Danny's frustration because he must be looking at that and saying to the chairman, 'if you back me a little bit, I might be able to get in the play-offs this season.'
"I don't think it's a huge concern for Sheffield Wednesday at the moment because it has to be a process that takes time. You don't just go from nearly dropping out of the league to being back in the position that they're in.
"He's an ambitious young manager. He was coveted by a lot of clubs just recently. Southampton and other clubs were chasing him, and he was happy to commit his future to the football club.
"I would've thought that his future being committed to the football club was in conjunction with talks with Mr Chansiri about the future of the football club and the players they were going to bring in to take the club to the next level.
"Let's wait and see what happens in the January transfer window, because I'm sure that if he's not backed and continues to do the job he does, and he gets frustrated with the Chairman, then for Sheffield Wednesday fans we could see the departure of Danny Rohl."
