Last night, Antonine Kombouaré oversaw an important point for his FC Nantes side against his former team, Paris Saint-Germain.
Nantes were able to respond after a first-half setback saw the league champions take the lead in the 33rd minute through a strike from Vitinha. In the 83rd minute, Douglas Augusto took advantage of a slaloming run from Mathis Abline to rifle past Gianluigi Donnarumma.
Kombouaré lavished praise on his team in his post-match press conference, with the head coach stating, “It’s a huge source of pride. Pride, because we were in a lot of trouble. It’s difficult when you’re 1-0 down at half-time. The players played a huge second half to avoid conceding that second goal, and above all, to be able to take that point from the draw.”
He added, “Scoring a goal against PSG is a huge source of satisfaction because we played a huge team game, a huge team performance. Everyone is involved, it’s very difficult to single out a player tonight. The goal from Douglas Augusto was the reward for everyone’s hard work. It’s such an important point in the race to stay up.”
The point provides Nantes with a bit of breathing room going into the final four games of the campaign. La Maison Jaune are in 14th with four points separating them from both Le Havre AC in the relegation playoff spot and AS Saint-Étienne in one of the automatic relegation spots.
Nantes will host Toulouse FC and fellow strugglers Angers SCO before travelling to AJ Auxerre. On the final day of the season, Nantes will take on bottom-of-the-table Montpellier HSC.
