Alexander Isak reportedly has no intention of ever playing for Newcastle United again as he tries to force through a transfer to Liverpool.

The Sweden striker has been heavily linked with a move to Anfield this summer despite the Magpies’ insistence that he is not for sale.

Earlier this month Liverpool submitted a £110 million bid for Isak, which was swiftly rejected by Newcastle. The Tyneside outfit want their star player to renew terms on his contract, which runs until 2028, but he has not engaged in talks over a new deal.

Isak ‘finished’ at Newcastle amid Liverpool transfer saga

Indeed, Isak so intent on joining the Reds that he is “adamant” he will not play for Newcastle ever again, according to The Athletic‘s David Ornstein.

The 25-year-old regards his career at the club as “finished” and has “no desire to reintegrate into the squad”, even if a sale does not happen before the transfer window closes.

It’s claimed that, after Newcastle informed him they would not be offering a new contract in order to comply with the Premier League’s financial regulations, Isak told the club the 2024/25 campaign would be his last at St James’ Park.

Ornstein’s sources at Newcastle “deny that this was expressed and believe the forward planned to discuss the situation” after the end of last season.

Isak “told” manager Eddie Howe of his desire to leave two weeks before the season concluded and “reiterated” this on a call with the boss following their defeat to Everton on the final day.

Liverpool have not followed up on their opening offer as they do not wish to get caught in a cycle of rejected bids. They are still open to a deal, however.

Meanwhile, Newcastle have been searching for potential replacements. They missed out on Benjamin Sesko to Manchester United, but could yet sign Yoane Wissa from Brentford. A new striker signing may open the door for Isak to leave.

Fabrizio Romano reports that Liverpool are “not giving up” on a deal. “They feel that Newcastle are still very active in the market to find a striker because they know Isak is not changing his mind,” the transfer expert said on his YouTube channel.

“Alexander Isak is not changing his mind, Isak has no intention to return to a normal conversation with Newcastle over a new contract.

“They maintain their confidence in making a deal happen for Isak. Let’s follow the story but it remains a concrete opportunity.”
