The 33-year-old has been linked with a remarkable switch to North Wales

"Remarkable transfer rumour" and "Wrexham" are two phrases which will be paired together a lot this summer, and even though the window has barely been open a week, the Red Dragons have already been linked with some Premier League-proven talent.

TeamTalk have reported that Christian Eriksen is on Wrexham's radar, just weeks after departing Manchester United at the end of his current contract.

The most capped Dane of all time has spent the past three-and-a-half years back in England, after he returned to football following his cardiac arrest during his country's Euro 2020 opener against Finland.

He joined the Red Devils following a short spell at Brentford and spent three seasons at Old Trafford. As you'd expect with a club the size of Manchester United, his contract was rather sizable.

Football League World has taken a look to see how much Eriksen earned during his time in Manchester.

Christian Eriksen only had one contract whilst at Manchester United, signing a three-year deal in the summer of 2022.

This means that his reported salary, according to Capology's estimates, of £150,000 per week, stayed consistent throughout his three years at Old Trafford.

This meant that his gross pay per year totalled an estimated £7.8 million per year, which adds up to an astronomical £23.4 million across his entire contract.

The 33-year-old was one of Manchester United's highest earners last season, with only five players earning more than his £150,000 per week salary.

Christian Eriksen's contract demands would have to be much lower if Wrexham were to swoop in

According to Capology's estimates, Kelechi Iheanacho's £75,000 per week was the highest weekly wage in the Championship last season. When you take away loan players, Patrick Bamford topped the charts with £70,000 per week.

This means that Eriksen earned over double the highest-earning player not loaned to a Championship club last season, meaning a move to the Championship would be incredibly unlikely under those contract demands.

However, £150,000 per week is very high, and the likelihood is that Eriksen is going to have to accept a contract lower than that if he is to carry on his career in Europe. If he were to move to a Championship side, his demands would need to be a lot lower.

The 33-year-old's short-term contract at Brentford only came to £30,000 per week - if he was willing to accept something similar to that, then there's no reason why Wrexham can't throw their hat in the ring.

However, as Eriksen's career starts to wind down, he'll be eager to show that he can still perform at the highest level ahead of what will probably be his last World Cup in 2026. A move to Wrexham would be remarkable, but perhaps unlikely.
