An insight into the developments which played out behind the scenes in the buildup to Kylian Mbappé’s imminent move to Real Madrid has this weekend been forthcoming.

The info comes courtesy of Relevo, and points towards Mbappé, by swallowing his ego, having essentially kept alive his chances of landing in Spain’s capital.

After the debacle of summer 2022, when the frontman went back on his word to sign for Real Madrid at the last minute, to instead renew his contract with Paris Saint-Germain, it was widely reported that Mbappé had burned the bridges keeping afloat any chance of a future Santiago Bernabéu switch.

An ensuing outreach on the part of the 25-year-old, however, ensured that this in fact did not prove the case.

As per the aforementioned Relevo, Mbappé was left regretting his decision to extend his PSG terms mere days on from as much being made official two years ago.

At this point, the French international made personal contact with Real president Florentino Pérez, to explain his predicament, and apologise for his actions.

This kept the channel of communication between the parties alive, laying the foundations for negotiations to be reignited earlier this season.

With Mbappé having this week announced his impending departure from Paris, and a long-awaited move to Madrid now just an announcement away, the rest, as they say, is history…
