Attacking reinforcements are being looked at by Steven Schumacher and his recruitment team.
Bolton Wanderers have had a bid for Celtic centre-forward Johnny Kenny rejected.
A flying start to the summer window has been made by Steven Schumacher's Trotters. Already, before the end of June, his squad is starting to look much different than the one he finished his first half campaign with.
Four additions have been made, plus the major sale of Aaron Collins for £800,000 to League Two outfit MK Dons. Bolton have attempted to bring in a fifth, but have seen a proposal for their latest target turned down.
Wanderers attempted to use £500,000 of the money they received from their former star forward to buy another attacker. Kenny, a 22-year-old Irish striker, was the subject of a half-a-million pound bid by Bolton, according to Sky Sports, but the offer was turned down by Celtic.
Kenny was bought by the Glaswegian side from Sligo Rovers in January 2022 and has spent the majority of his time with the Scottish Premiership champions on loan. A temporary move to Shamrock Rovers in 2024 saw him pick up 13 goals in 29 appearances in the Premier Division.
He got his first proper taste of football under Brendan Rogers at the back end of last season, making eight appearances, including one start. Kenny scored once in this brief spell in the Hoops' first-team.
Sky Sports stated that Celtic aren't looking to sell the Irishman and that the offer put in by Bolton was not close to their valuation of the 22-year-old. Another bid from the League One outfit is expected, though Celtic are said to prefer the option of another loan move for Kenny.
A decision on his location for the upcoming season will be made towards the end of the summer, as per Sky. Thankfully for Schumacher, he already has one striker addition through the doors of the Toughsheet Community Stadium. In fact, Sam Dalby, the former Wrexham frontman, was the club's first signing of the window.
The goal for Bolton is, obviously, to at least contend for promotion to the Championship, having had a poor campaign last time out by their standards. They finished ninth in the third division.
Schumacher is also keeping an eye on the future, though, as is demonstrated by this pursuit of Kenny.
There are more senior options already present in the Bolton dressing room that would probably be higher in the club's attacking pecking order than the Celtic man should he make the move to Lancashire. Still, the club's hierarchy clearly see a prospect worth investing in with Kenny, and they're not going to give up their pursuit easily.
