Tottenham captain Heung-min Son has admitted ‘confidence is a little bit down’ at the club after a difficult season.

Ange Postecoglou’s side fought back from two goals down to earn a 2-2 draw with Bournemouth on Sunday. A sloppy first-half performance saw the visitors take control in the capital.

Amid a plethora of loose passes in defensive areas, Pedro Porro gave the ball away during a Spurs attack with Bournemouth breaking at speed. Milos Kerkez drove forward before firing across a cross for Marcus Tavernier to slide in the opener for the Cherries.

A frustrated fanbase booed the home side off at half-time, with Postecoglou introducing Son and Lucas Bergvall form the bench. However, Bournemouth doubled their lead through Evanilson after more static Spurs defending.

Spurs pulled a goal back just two minutes later in fortuitous fashion. Pape Sarr’s cross evaded everyone, including Kepa in the Bournemouth goal. Though lifted, Bournemouth remained in control until a rash challenge from Kepa conceded a late penalty. Son stepped up to convert and earn Spurs a barely deserved draw.

The flat display followed a poor performance in defeat at AZ Alkmaar on Thursday. Spurs face the Dutch side in the second leg of their Europa League tie this week. Speaking to Sky Sports at full-time, Son admitted the squad are struggling for confidence.

“I am still very disappointed and frustrated not getting the three points when you play at home and expect them. Bournemouth are a really good side but I still feel like it was not good enough for us.

“It is tough to say but Thursday was an unacceptable performance from everyone and today in the first half as well being sloppy. I would not say it was a hangover but when your confidence is a little bit down you do things you would normally not do and make mistakes. We have to be strong because a massive game is coming.

“Everyone has quality in the Premier League but confidence makes a huge, huge difference. Especially after Thursday you think, ‘we have to more and do better’ and obviously things are a bit stressed but you have to stay calm and do the simple things and we will come out of this tunnel.”
