Neil Lennon has claimed that Adam Idah is a little inconsistent for Celtic at the moment and that Brendan Rodgers will be working with striker on the training ground to find a solution…

The Irishman was speaking about Idah before the Hoops’ big win over St Mirren, where Brendan Rodgers’ side ran out 5-2 winners in the end, thanks to a late flurry of goals….

Idah was the subject of discussion beforehand, and when Lennon was asked about the striker, he claimed that sometimes he needs to think more when he’s on the field of play and that there is still a lingering inconsistency to his game currently. The man who arrived for £9.5 million from Norwich City last summer has blown hot and cold but there have been moments where he has looked very handy indeed.

Lennon mentioned Idah’s two goals at Villa Park

Lennon mentioned his two goals at Villa Park in the Champions League back in January as a case in point, but reckons he hasn’t really followed that up and forced his way past Daizen Maeda as Rodgers’ first pick for that centre-forward role in the team just now. Speaking to Sky Sports Scotland, Lennon said: “Look, when Kyogo left and Adam came into the team, he got two against Villa. He was banging them in, but he’s inconsistent a little bit.

‘You could see Brendan wasn’t happy’

“Brendan sort of brought him, McCowan and Greg Taylor back into the team last week against Hibs, but he was poor. And obviously, you could see Brendan wasn’t happy and he whipped the three of them off. Went back to his tried and trusted starting eleven. He’s got good attributes I think, but he’s too inconsistent at the minute. He needs a big performance today.”

When asked what the manager can do to get him back firing again, the former Celtic boss replied: “Work with him on the training ground, obviously. You’ve got to get into his head. I think sometimes he switches off. There was a great opportunity in the first half last week, when he came across, and all he had to do was slip in one of the runners.

‘He’s powerful, he’s quick, he’s strong’

“He took the extra touch. It’s just his thinking has to be quicker and brighter. I think he’s an instinctive kind of player where he’s powerful, he’s quick, he’s strong. And he does things off the cuff. I think he needs to think more.”

Idah back home in Cork

Meanwhile Adam Idah was back home in Cork yesterday helping to promote the launch of the Cork Super Cup where Celtic will play local Irish side Cork City on Tuesday 8 July at the SuperValu Páirc Uí Chaoimh. Here’s the media conference featuring Celtic striker Adam Idah…
