Sheffield Wednesday stunned Leeds United last night in the League Cup after defeating the Premier League side on penalties, with on-loan Cardiff City goalkeeper Ethan Horvath the hero.

Due to owner Dejphon Chansiri failing to run the club properly, Wednesday have been placed under an embargo and hit with transfer fee restrictions in recent months.

They were able to secure the loan signing of Horvath from Cardiff due to the injury of Northern Irish goalkeeper Pierce Charles, who was the club's only senior professional keeper before Horvath joined.

In fact, aside from American goalkeeper Horvath (30) and Jamaican striker Jamal Lowe (31), no other player in Wednesday's starting eleven was over 20-years-old, making this achievement of knocking out Yorkshire rivals and Premier League outfit Leeds all the more remarkable.

Leeds' starting lineup, on the other hand, contained the likes of Joel Piroe, who was the Championship's top goalscorer last season, Noah Okafor, Brenden Aaronson, Jaka Bijol and Sean Longstaff, all of whom were bought for multi-million pound fees.

Following his young side's victory over Leeds last night, manager Pedersen was hopeful of a fresh update today regarding the club's transfer business.

He said: "I hope we will get an update tomorrow.

"And I know that we are doing all that we can to prepare players and I know the club are doing what they can to create the environment to get some players. Of course we need players."

There are just days remaining before the transfer window deadline, so Pedersen will be praying for some positive news in the hope of strengthening his side by any means necessary before the window slams shut.

Horvath has been the club's only signing so far this summer, and that has only been allowed because of the injury to Charles.

Meanwhile, Wednesday have seen 13 players exit the club, the vast majority of whom left on free transfers, only collecting fees for Djeidi Gassama and Anthony Musaba, though even then they received a fraction of their true market value due to the off-field turmoil the club finds itself in.

The transfer window slams shut at 7pm on September 1st, meaning Wednesday will have just days to conduct any sort of transfer business should they be given the green light.

The problem Wednesday will face, though, is that their options in terms of incomings will be limited, given the vast majority of free agents have found a club.

They had been hopeful of securing the signing of former Burnley captain Ben Mee, after being offered the chance to sign the centre-back. However, bitter rivals Sheffield United have also been linked with his signature in a bid to strengthen their own depleted squad.
