The French footballing world was left in shock after last night’s match between Paris Saint-Germain and Liverpool. The Ligue 1 side dominated their Premier League opposition at the Parc des Princes but were kept out of the game by an inspired performance from Alisson Becker (32).
The Liverpool goalkeeper made nine saves, securing a clean sheet and allowing Liverpool the platform to take one of their few chances and steal a narrow 1-0 advantage before the tie resolves next week at Anfield.
In an interview with Le Parisien, the Brest head coach, Eric Roy (who saw his team knocked out by PSG in the previous round), gave his thoughts on the game and in particular the heroics of the Liverpool goalkeeper.
For Roy, PSG are very much still in the tie despite the defeat at home, “Tonight, you crack just once after playing the whole match on the front foot. When looking at the game, you can tell yourself that it’s possible [to win] at Anfield. With an opposing goalkeeper who is a little less strong. Tonight, he was Jesus…”
Les Parisiens will be well aware that they face an uphill struggle when they travel to England next Tuesday. The famous stadium can be an inhospitable place to travel to on European nights.
