Bogusz and LAFC continue rocking

Scorer: Bogusz 20′, 58′, 72′. Red: Cabral 62′.

Plenty of eyes were on this game as leaders LAFC recorded a statement 3-0 win over fourth-place Colorado Rapids.

One man was again the star of the show as Mateusz Bogusz scored a 52-minute hat-trick to ensure his side remained on top.

His first arrived when he roofed home a cross from Denis Bouanga at the back post. The next was when he capitalized on a loose ball above the penalty spot.

Then his third goal was a powerful run and finish into the box, which meant he netted his first hat-trick for the club.

Colorado will wonder what could have been if they had recorded more than one shot on target. And if Kevin Cabral wasn’t sent off at the hour mark, they could have prevented Bogusz’s celebrations.

LAFC are tied at the top with rivals LA Galaxy but have one game in hand. The Rapids, meanwhile, sit nine points back.

White the hero for Whitecaps

Scorers: White 37′, 54′, 61′, Picault 90′; Blom 7′, Lowen 12′ (P), Thorisson 90+3′

Another hat-trick took centre stage on the West Coast as Vancouver fought back to beat St. Louis City 4-3.

After Njabulo Blom’s long-range strike deflected in within minutes and Eduard Lowen scored from the penalty spot, home fans were left holding their breath.

That was until Brian White rose to the occasion for the Whitecaps. His first was a deflected effort before he pulled off a cheeky scorpion kick to pull things 2-2.

Then, the No. 24 was left unmarked and headed home to secure his 24-minute hat-trick. His three goals make White the first club player to record multiple hat-tricks in MLS play and the fifth in the Whitecaps’ history.

Late drama ensued when Fafa Picault added a fourth and Nokkvi Thorisson ensured St. Louis finished with a big push after bundling home their third but it was too little too late.

The result means the Whitecaps sit seventh in the West while St. Louis are 12th.

Miami hold on to beat Nashville

Scorers: Mukhtar 73′ (P); Fray 40′, Alba 44′

Inter Miami made it three wins in a row after holding on for a 2-1 win over Nashville SC.

Without star players Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez, the visitors had to hope other names could deliver on Saturday.

Possession was split between these two sides as they tinkered for the opener, but two goals in four minutes before the break put Miami in charge.

Ian Fray scored a thumping header for the first before Jordi Alba scored a potential Goal of the Season contender to double the lead from range.

Nashville, however, didn’t let up and put pressure on the visitors.

Hany Mukhtar turned things 2-1 from the penalty spot, making the game dramatic, but in the end, Miami held on even after nine minutes of stoppage time.

They sit two points above Cincinnati (who have a game in hand) while Nashville are seventh.

Columbus smash five past New England

Scorers: Boateng 9′; Hernandez 16′, Arfsten 42′, 45+2′, Camacho 72′, Moreira 80′

Visitors Columbus Crew made Gillette Stadium their turf after a five-star showing against New England Revolution.

It looked as though Emmanuel Boateng’s opener would kickstart a win for the hosts, but the floodgates opened.

Cucho Hernandez cushioned a ball down and finished a strong solo run before Max Arfsten curled one into the top right corner. A fluid team move then saw Diego Rossi bundle home a third.

Rudy Camacho scored a thumping header for his first club goal before a clinical counterattack saw Steven Moreira tap home the fifth.

The Crew finished the game with five goals and six efforts on target. They moved to fourth in the East with the victory. New England, meanwhile, will are once again left scratching their heads and sit 14th.

Thrilling MTL comeback

Scorers: Martinez 36′, Elliott 56′ (OG), Yankob 89′, Teixeira 90+2′; Sullivan 29′, Bueno 42′

Montreal demonstrated what it means to never say die after fighting for a 4-2 win over Philadelphia Union.

The visitors opened the scoring through Quinn Sullivan’s slick shot off the post before Josef Martinez rose highest for the equaliser.

Jesus Bueno’s tap-in turned things back in favour of the Union until the hosts turned up the attack.

An own goal from Jack Elliott made things 2-2 and then Montreal stole all three points at the death,

Some fancy footwork from Dominik Yankov helped him strike the winner from range as home fans erupted. Ruan Gregorio Teixeira then added a late fourth.

Looking at the table Montreal sit 10th and the Union are 12th.
