Liverpool Star Recovers After Carabao Cup Incident

Liverpool midfielder Harvey Elliott has been the subject of much concern following an injury scare during his side’s 2-1 loss to Newcastle in the Carabao Cup final. A forceful challenge from Joelinton left Elliott requiring medical assistance, but recent updates suggest that the 21-year-old is progressing well in his recovery.

Incident at Wembley

Elliott’s injury occurred in the dying moments of the Carabao Cup final at Wembley, when the midfielder was on the receiving end of what many described as a “rugby tackle” from Newcastle’s Joelinton. In the 11th minute of stoppage time, Joelinton hauled Elliott down by the neck while scraping his ankles with two separate lunges.

Despite the severity of the tackle, VAR did not intervene, and no red card was issued. The challenge left Elliott needing help from Liverpool’s medical staff to leave the pitch after the final whistle. Footage from journalists showed Elliott limping through the mixed zone, unable to walk unaided to the bench, further highlighting the challenge’s impact.

Injury History and Elliott’s Frustrating Season

This injury concern is not the first for Elliott this season. Back in September 2024, while on international duty with England’s U21s, he suffered a fractured foot, which sidelined him for six weeks. This forced him to miss crucial games at the start of Arne Slot’s tenure at Anfield, a setback that saw him miss seven matches across various competitions.

For Elliott, who has made only four starts this season, including none in the Premier League, the injuries have compounded a frustrating campaign. Despite his potential, the 21-year-old has struggled to maintain a consistent presence in the first team, with the injury concerns holding him back.

Positive News: Elliott Back in Training

Fortunately for Elliott and Liverpool, it seems that his latest injury, sustained in the Carabao Cup final, will not rule him out for an extended period. According to Merseyside reporter Lewis Steele, Elliott has been participating in full training with England U21s this week.

Steele posted on X, “Harvey Elliott training with England Under 21s today after nasty injury at end of Carabao Cup final saw him limp on to the team bus.” This update suggests that the midfielder is recovering well and that the injury, while concerning at the time, is unlikely to keep him out of action for an extended period.

Upcoming Fixtures and Liverpool’s Outlook

Elliott’s participation in England U21 training indicates that he may be fit to continue his involvement with both his national team and Liverpool in the near future. The young midfielder will be hoping to put his injury woes behind him and get back to playing regularly, especially as Liverpool look to mount a serious challenge in both the Premier League and other competitions.

England U21s are set to face France in a friendly match on Friday, March 21, followed by another friendly against Portugal on March 24. These fixtures will provide Elliott with a valuable opportunity to continue his recovery and regain match fitness ahead of Liverpool’s return to domestic action.
