Since Enda Stevens left the club, the Blades have struggled to find a suitable replacement at left-back. Yasser Larouci, Luke Thomas and others couldn’t match the Irish international’s high standards.  Enter Harrison Burrows, the Peterborough academy graduate has been a revelation at the Lane both defensively and going forward.

On Saturday, Burrows showcased his attacking capabilities further scoring twice against Norwich City. After the game, Burrows in an interview with CBS Sports spoke about life as a Blade.

The Interview

After his brace on Saturday, Burrows was rightly pleased with himself. His most recent two doubled his tally to four Championship goals for the Blades.

Burrows said: “Once you get the first goal. You have a feeling inside you where you want to get more goals.

“To be fair I possibly could have had three or four by the end but I’ll take two.”

His scoring form and contributions to the Blade’ 16 clean sheets this season are helping Burrow’s reach some personal and team goals.

“I’ve always dreamed of playing in the Premier League. To do whatever I can to get Sheffield United and myself there has been my mindset since the summer.”

One of the key points that Burrows stressed the importance of the current Blades’ squad’s togetherness.

“Everyone knows how tough the Championship is but the togetherness we’ve installed in the group is a massive help. It’s not just the team we’re like a family and we show that out on the pitch.

“Our togetherness compared to the other four (promotion-chasing) teams is better and ultimately that’s helping us win games.

“It comes to the character of individuals within our team, the bonds, the relationship, the staff. The club itself is a really family club and everyone is together. Whenever anyone makes an important tackle or scores a goal we surround that player. We just love winning and fighting for each other.”

Burrows on Chris Wilder

Burrows has taken to the Championship step-up with ease and working with Chris Wilder has been great for his development. He shared the effect the manager has on the players.

“From day one he treats everyone the same. The size of Sheffield United he always reiterates to us what football means in the city, what it means to the club and what it means to himself being from the city.

“He’s one of their own, he’s passionate, and we get the motivation from him.”

With the Blades current thin squad, Burrows laid out the blueprint for the rest of the season.

“We have to be able to reset after each game because they come thick and fast at this part of the season.

“We have to take each game as it comes and recover properly to be ready for the next game.”

Burrows’ form so far this season

This season Burrows has been vital to the Blades’ success. The 23-year-old has featured in 24 games, starting all but one of them. He is currently the highest-scoring left-back in the division and is outperforming his xG of 2.36.

His late goal in the eighth minute of added time against Bristol City is one of the highlights of the season so far. As well as being crucial in securing three points and keeping the Blades’ competitive in a tight promotion race.

He is also amongst the best passers in the league creating 30 chances and 697 successful passes this season. Despite only contributing one assist, Burrows expected assists is 4.35 suggesting more goal contributions will come.

Defensively, Burrows has been very solid. He has won 70.6% of his tackles, 59.3% of his duels and 52.8% of his aerial duels. He is the left-back with the most blocks in the league (20) and has completed 107 recoveries. His tackling has also kept United’s attacks going with him winning possession in the final third seven times. Burrows is also very disciplined for a United defender receiving only two yellow cards so far.

Takeaways

Overall, Burrows signing has been a revelation for the Blades this season. With each performance the reported fee of £2 million plus add-ons is looking more of a bargain. In a market, where transfer fees continue to rise as a value for money player, Burrows is part of a dying breed.

All we can ask for now is that Burrows and his teammates keep up their terrific form.
