Brentford sporting director Phil Giles reveals that Bryan Mbeumo wouldn’t mind staying at the Gtech Community Stadium despite ongoing negotiations with Manchester United.
The Red Devils have long identified the Cameroonian as their priority target to bolster the attacking department after signing Matheus Cunha. The management has already secured an agreement with the player and his entourage on personal terms.
However, the Bees have already turned down two offers for Mbeumo, leaving INEOS in a tough spot. They will either have to break the bank for the 25-year-old or abandon the pursuit in favour of other prospects.
The second option would be a massive blow for United who made significant progress on this track, but also for the player who turned down several other tracks (including Arsenal, Newcastle and Spurs) in favour of the Old Trafford outfit.
On Monday, Giles weighed in on the transfer saga in an interview with Sky Sports News.
The Brentford director admitted that Mbeumo’s priority is to join United (albeit without naming them), but also insisted that the deal ‘is not a given’, while claiming that the winger would be ‘happy’ to stay at the club if the transfer doesn’t materialise.

At this stage, it remains to be seen if these statements truly reflect the player’s sentiments. After six years with the Bees, one would imagine that Mbeumo would be desperate to embark on a new career chapter, especially following his sensational 2024/25 campaign.
The Cameroon international was absolutely devastating throughout the season. Although he’s not a striker, he still scored 20 times in the Premier League, while also providing eight assists for his teammates.
These exceptional figures justify Man Utd’s keen desire to add him to Ruben Amorim’s squad.
