There is no doubt that with the arrival of Hansi Flick on the FC Barcelona bench, the Polish striker Robert Lewandowski was able to once again perform at his best level, and he is once again proving to be one of the deadliest strikers in Europe this season.
The Pole has already scored 34 goals in 39 appearances this season and is one of the contenders for the Golden Boot award.
However, Lewandowski has struggled to make an impact in recent high-stakes encounters, and last night’s clash against Benfica was no exception. The Polish striker failed to rise to the occasion, delivering an underwhelming performance.
Hansi Flick now believes that he no longer exerts the same level of attacking influence he once did at his peak. Thus, the Catalans are looking to bring in another top-level forward who can provide greater freshness and versatility in the attacking line.
According to Fichajes, Barcelona have three main candidates in their mind for this purpose. The first one is the Slovenian striker Benjamin Šeško, who has been performing at quite an impressive level at RB Leipzig for quite some time now. Still only 21, he is an imposing forward with his power and finishing ability allowing him to stand out in particular.
However, he has a contract till 2029 with the Bundesliga side, and thus signing him will not really be easy for the Blaugranes.
The Newcastle United forward Alexander Isak is another attractive target for the Catalans to replace Lewandowski. The Swede has been performing at a very high level this season, having already scored 22 goals in 32 games.
However, the Magpies will not really allow him to leave for cheap, and Barcelona will have to shell out a significant amount of money to sign him.
Lastly, the third option is another Swedish striker, Viktor Gyökeres, whose 39 goals in 40 appearances with Sporting CP have catapulted him to prominence this season. But getting him will also not be easy as he has a contract till 2028, and is also one of the most in-demand players in the market.
Thus, Barcelona will have to make a decision on which of these strikers to pursue to replace the Pole, and their finances will play an important role in this decision.
