Viktor Gyokeres is understood to be ‘furious’ with Sporting Lisbon’s stance on his future this summer.

Gyokeres is expected to leave Sporting in the upcoming window amid interest from Europe’s top clubs.

The Swedish striker has scored 97 goals in 102 games for Portuguese champions Sporting across the last two seasons, ending consecutive campaigns as the Primeira Liga’s leading scorer.

The player’s representatives believed they had a gentleman’s agreement with Sporting to let Gyokeres leave for a fee of €70m this summer. However, the club’s president Frederico Varandas has denied such agreement. He has insisted that Gyokeres will not be allowed to leave for that fee.

Though Sporting are prepared to sell Gyokeres for less than his €100m (£85.1m) release clause, the increase in the believed asking price has led to an angry reaction from the player.

Fabrizio Romano has said Gyokeres is ‘furious’ with Sporting’s stance, as the club look to land a higher fee for their leading scorer. The situation has been described as ‘tense’.

Such is Gyokeres’ unhappiness, Sky Sports have claimed that the forward has told Sporting he will not play for the club again as he looks to engineer an exit.

Arsenal and Manchester United have heavily been linked with signing the 27-year-old, while Chelsea, Juventus and several Saudi Pro League sides have also monitored his situation.

Gyokeres has three years remaining on his contract at The Estádio José Alvalade with Sporting under no pressure to sell.
