MIAMI – The 2025 Concacaf Gold Cup continues with Panama taking on Guatemala in Group C on Friday at Q2 Stadium in Austin, Texas, USA.

Both sides won their opening match and will seeking sole possession of first place in the group.

The Panamanians cruised to a 5-2 victory over Guadeloupe, marking the first time ever in the tournament that they scored four goals in the first half of a match.

Ismael Díaz recorded a brace and now has seven career Gold Cup goals, his second multi-score match in tourney history. He scored a hat trick against Qatar in the quarterfinals of the 2023 edition.

Guatemala defeated Jamaica, 1-nil, for the first time ever in Gold Cup, ending a five-game losing streak, including two straight matches without scoring on the Reggae Boyz.

Óscar Santis scored his first Gold Cup goal and became the 24th player to score for Guatemala in the tournament’s history.

Although the nations have faced off on many occasions, this will be their first-ever meeting in the Gold Cup. It will also be their third meeting on U.S. soil, with the previous two being friendlies.

Panama has the upper hand over Guatemala in recent history, unbeaten across the last 13 (10-3-0). Their last encounter was a 3-nil win in Panama City in Group A of League A in the 2023-24 Concacaf Nations League.

Although Panama and Guatemala have faced off many times before, this will be their first-ever meeting in the Concacaf Gold Cup.

In recent history, Panama has had the upper hand. Across the last 13 meetings in all competitions, Panama is unbeaten, with 10 wins and 3 draws. Their most recent clash was a convincing 3-0 win on October 17, 2023, in the 2023–24 Concacaf Nations League at Estadio Rommel Fernández in Panama City, with goals from Adalberto Carrasquilla (14'), Eric Davis (48’ penalty), and Abdiel Ayarza (89').

This will also be their third meeting on U.S. soil. Their previous two encounters were friendlies:

- On June 1, 2008, Panama won 1-0 in Fort Lauderdale thanks to a 66th-minute goal from José Luis Garcés.

- On March 12, 2023, the teams drew 1-1 at PayPal Park in San Jose, with Darwin Lom (85’ penalty) scoring for Guatemala and Carlos Harvey (18’) netting for Panama.

The two sides also share a history in Gold Cup qualifying tournaments. They’ve met five times in the Central American (UNCAF) qualifiers, with Panama winning four and Guatemala just once. That lone Guatemalan victory came in the third-place match of 2005, a 3-0 result at Estadio Doroteo Guamuch Flores with goals from Edwin Villatoro (7’) and Juan Carlos Plata (41’, 49’).
