Grant reflects on first season: “I feel I have grown as a player” | OneFootball

Joining midway through a campaign can always be difficult, but Charlotte Grant praises on how her team-mates have helped her settled into life at Hotspur Way.

The Australia international made the move to the Club in the January transfer window following the expiration of her contract with Vittsjö GIK and was straight into the action, starting seven of her first eight games in all competitions.

She scored on just her second start in Lilywhite, netting in the 3-0 win over Southampton in the FA Women’s Continental Tyres League Cup back in January.

As the season came to an end last weekend, where we ran out 3-1 winners over West Ham United at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, the 22-year-old spoke of her delight on the support from the fans as the defender wore fan-made glasses with ‘Charli’ on it.

Reflecting on our season finale win over the Hammers, Charli said: “It was an amazing way to end the season, especially at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium with a great crowd, we were really pleased with the result and to finish on a high.

“We are so appreciative of all the fans that show up for us, week in, week out, they help us over the line with all their support they give us, especially the energy, and we are so grateful for all of them.”

The defender, who was recently named in the Matildas squad for their upcoming international friendlies, would go on to feature in 10 games during the second half of the campaign, playing a key part in our historic Women’s FA Cup run as we reached the Final for the first time.

“It has been an amazing journey so far,” Charli added when reflecting on a whirlwind couple of months at the Club.

“It has had it challenges, personally, getting used to the style of football here and, even, the level of the WSL, but I feel I have really grown as a player and as an individual, while, as a team, we have created history for the Club so it has been really special to be a part of it all and, I think, we are building and I’m looking forward to seeing even further progress next season.

“I feel I’m starting to build some really good connections with the girls, which can be difficult to do halfway through a season, so I’m looking forward to starting that from the beginning, working on the style of play and the connections ahead of the start of next season.

“We want to win silverware with this Club and we will want to fight for that Champions League spot, we have showed already that we can compete with the top teams so we want to go as far as we can in the cup competitions and in the league, we are heading in the right direction to do so.”
