Gotham FC wins inaugural Concacaf W Champions Cup

SAN NICOLÁS DE LOS GARZA, Mexico – NJ/NY Gotham FC earned a 1-nil victory against Tigres UANL Femenil in the championship match of the 2024/25 Concacaf W Champions Cup Finals on Saturday at Estadio Universitario in San Nicolás de los Garza, Nuevo León, Mexico.
Tigres goalkeeper Itzel González was busy from the start with back-to-back stops in the 2’, first to deny Jaelin Howell from long range followed by a block on the rebound from Sarah Schupansky.
Esther González had a look from outside the box in the 12’, but Itzel González was there to avert any danger.
Greta Espinoza was denied by the crossbar in the 32’ after she struck a header off a corner kick service from Jacqueline Ovalle.
Itzel González was key again in the 45+4’ to deny Midge Purce on a penalty kick opportunity.
Ovalle tried her luck from the top of the box in the 58’, connecting on a service from Thembi Kgatlana, but was blocked by Purce.
Esther González broke through with the match-winning goal in the 82’, converting off the rebound following her penalty kick chance was initially denied by Itzel González.
NJ/NY Gotham FC made history as the first-ever Concacaf W Champions Cup winners. Tigres UANL Femenil finished runners-up in the tournament’s inaugural edition.
As winners of the Concacaf W Champions Cup, Gotham FC advances to the 2026 FIFA Women’s Champions Cup and 2028 FIFA Women’s Club World Cup.
