After a big international break for some of the NJ/NY Gotham FC players, the Bats will resume NWSL play with a home game against the Kansas City Current. They will meet the first-place team for the first time this season and will try to rebound from a poor period of league play. The home side’s last NWSL game was a 1-0 loss to San Diego Wave FC, and they are winless in their last three fixtures.
However, fans have hope that Gotham FC can turn things around and possibly force the Current to lose their third game of the season. For starters, the Bats won the 2024-25 CONCACAF W Champions Cup, beating a tough Club América Femenil in the semifinals and Tigres UANL Femenil in the finals. This was the first edition of the competition, so the club will have the historic honor of always being the first. Ideally, they will utilize the win as a spark to climb back up the NWSL table.
In addition, there is one player who can change the club for the better: Rose Lavelle. The midfielder has not played yet this season as she recovered from her offseason surgery. Truthfully, when she returns, it will be like the team signed a new player. And guess what? Journalist Jenna Tonelli reported that Rose Lavelle might be available for the weekend’s game. If she is even on the bench, then that will be a great sign for Gotham.
Nevertheless, they must try to stop the Current and the team’s brilliant players. With talented players like Temwa Chawinga, Claire Hutton, and Debinha, the Bats will have a lot of work to do to beat them.
