FLW's QPR fan pundit has identified one key issue impacting the club

QPR have endured a very difficult start to the Championship this season.

There was optimism surrounding Loftus Road prior to the campaign getting underway after the impressive impact Martí Cifuentes had had in the previous term.

However, the Spaniard’s position is now under threat following the team’s poor results in recent weeks.

The London club will be hoping that results and performances will turn around soon, otherwise they could be in danger of relegation to League One.

There will be a lot of work being done behind the scenes at the moment to look at what issues might be holding back the team on the pitch.

QPR recruitment claim made

When asked what the biggest issue at the club is at the minute, FLW’s QPR fan pundit Louis Moir identified the recruitment.

He believes the head of recruitment Andrew Belk should depart the position at the end of the campaign, indicating a change in approach is needed.

“I think the biggest issue, I think a lot more people can see now at QPR has been the recruitment,” Moir told Football League World.

“I, for one, was excited for it, especially this summer.

“They have definitely been signing players from abroad, we’ve seen other clubs do it and it’s worked wonders, and with us only a few of the signings have shown glimpses or looked okay in games.

“Cause it’s just not really worked out at all.

“In hindsight, you look at it now and think maybe it was the wrong decision because we signed no players with Championship experience, and I think that’s what has done us in, and will continue to do us in at the minute.

“I think that issue obviously comes from the head of recruitment, the whole recruitment team but I think the head of recruitment, Andy Belk, he’s been at the club a long time, 16 years to be precise I think.

“And you’ve just got to look back at all the recruitment in recent transfer windows, no matter who’s been in charge, and it’s been below par and really, really disappointing.

“Obviously you’ve had a few players come in and they’ve done well, but end of the day that is where the problems lie.

“And he’s got to be made accountable I think.

“Realistically, you can’t just say ‘leave the club tomorrow’ but there has to be a point now where people higher up need to look at this and think it’s not worked.

“It hasn’t worked last year, hasn’t worked the year before, hasn’t worked again.

“There’s an obvious continual pattern here, so you’ve got to look at it and probably, realistically, at the end of the season and I think he has to go.

“He’s been at the club way too long, and that’s where the problem has lied, and he’s been a massive part of the failure in recruitment in recent seasons.”

QPR’s summer signings

QPR made a number of additions in the summer in a bid to improve the side, with their sights set on a top half finish in the Championship.

However, these fresh faces have not made the impact many had hoped, with the likes of Nicolas Madsen, Zan Celar, Jonathan Varane and Daniel Bennie all coming in on permanent deals.

Paul Nardi and Hevertton were also signed as free agents, with loan deals being agreed for Karamoko Dembélé, Koki Saito and Harrison Ashby.

QPR are currently 24th in the Championship table five points adrift of safety after 15 games.

Summer signings have proven underwhelming for QPR

Cifuentes is under pressure at QPR, but perhaps taking a closer look at the recruitment structure behind the scenes would be smarter.

The Hoops keep changing managers but the team itself has struggled to progress under multiple different coaches now.

It is unlikely that any one manager will fix everything at Loftus Road, and greater scrutiny is needed further up the food chain.
