Manchester United’s interest in Viktor Gyokeres remains firmly intact, but according to The United Stand Podcast, the situation is more complex than headlines suggest. As Mark Goldbridge stated, “Manchester United last week, this weekend, and this week have inquired about Gyokeres and want to be kept informed of any developments.” However, with Gyokeres reportedly still on holiday and weighing up offers, the transfer process has become a frustrating wait.
Arsenal are said to be the most advanced club in the race. “Gyokeres’s agent currently meeting with Arsenal officials,” Goldbridge confirmed, citing Portuguese reports. The Gunners’ strategy seems more proactive, which has only added to the perception that United may be falling behind.
Goldbridge urged calm, despite Arsenal’s increasing odds with the bookies: “Man United’s odds are still really short as well.” He warned supporters against being swayed by manipulated media narratives: “Maybe Sporting have had a word with the Portuguese press and said Arsenal are about to put a bid in because they know that they want to get the money that they want to get.”

He also cast doubt on the idea that Arsenal would buy both Sesko and Gyokeres: “It would shock me if Arsenal signed Gyokeres and Sesko. And I’m convinced they’re signing Sesko.”

Goldbridge acknowledged the stakes for United, stating plainly, “If we get him, I’m talking outside chance of top five. If we don’t get him, I think it’s a reality bites.” That admission highlights the dilemma United now face: land a top-tier striker like Gyokeres or risk entering the new season without a dependable No. 9.

He continued, “You bring one of those in and I start to dream about top five. You don’t bring them in… I don’t start thinking Man United can do that.” It’s a scenario that places enormous pressure on the club’s hierarchy, especially with sporting director talks ongoing and no major transfer yet completed.
Goldbridge didn’t hold back when reflecting on the club’s recent record. “Literally a month ago… we would have laughed about signing Gyokeres,” he said, highlighting the swing in fan expectations. He went further, referencing the missed opportunity to sell Bruno Fernandes for £100 million: “We should have turned up for the bloody final. That’s what we should have done.”
For Goldbridge, the Gyokeres saga reflects a deeper issue. “We’re back in that expectancy cycle again thinking we can attract the big names based on the past.” This transfer, then, is about more than one player — it’s about United’s place in the hierarchy of modern football and the illusion of past prestige.
