Shaun Goater thinks City’s experience and knowhow will be crucial in the pressurised penultimate game of the season at Tottenham.

City need two wins from their final two matches, starting on Tuesday against Ange Postecoglou’s men, to win the Premier League title for a record-breaking fourth consecutive season.

The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium is not a happy hunting ground for the Blues in the top-flight.

Despite winning there in the FA Cup earlier this season, City have lost all four Premier League encounters and failed to score a goal since its opening in April 2019.

But City legend Goater, a guest on our Matchday Live show this past weekend, believes that what’s at stake for Pep Guardiola’s men will spur them on this time around.

“It will be difficult. It will be challenging. But I think one of the things Pep will make his players aware of is looking around the dressing room and feeling the trust in the dressing room to get the job done,” said the ace ex-striker.

“I think the fact it is so close, I think the players will be ready and they will just know that there will be moments in the game where they will have to suffer and get through.

“That’s also about experience of knowing that when you have that time when you’re under a little bit of pressure, you can ride that period out and then when you’re on top, you go on and capitalise and create chances and put those chances away.”

Goater says that control is the key attribute he wants to see from City in Tuesday’s 20:00 (UK) kick-off.

He liked how the Blues bossed the match for long periods at Craven Cottage and wants to see more of that as we head back to the capital.

“I think it’s about City controlling the game and controlling the crowd,” the former forward added.

“I think that will be a huge part because the more we’re keeping possession and the more we’re building up confidence, similar to Fulham, if we can have periods and spells like that, it will make them more determined to counter-attack and then we can find our moments.”
