As Gillingham look to push further up League Two next season, there is sure to be a busy summer in store for those at Priestfield.
Gareth Ainsworth’s side ended the 2024/25 campaign on a positive note, going unbeaten in their final 12 fixtures.
Such form bodes well for a play-off push next term, making the upcoming transfer window all the more important for the Gills.
To bring new talent in, some of the side’s current crop may have to make way.
Football League World’s Gillingham fan pundit, Matt Olsen, believes one player in particular could be set to exit the club this summer.
“I think we could lose Jack Nolan this summer,” stated Matt. “He might be a player who's dissatisfied with his situation at the club.
“Despite his notable performances from the 2023/24 season at Accrington Stanley, where he demonstrated considerable promise, his first season at Priestfield has been really underwhelming.
“He hasn’t been afforded regular playing time and opportunities under Gareth Ainsworth. This limited involvement might have him questioning things and deciding he wants to move on.
“He could potentially play at a higher level, but he's just not really shown it in this first season at Gillingham.
“So, if anyone is going to leave the club this summer, I think it could be him. If he is contemplating a summer exit, I don't think many Gillingham fans will be too concerned.
“As I said, it has been a really underwhelming performance from Nolan this year. I don't know if he is wanted by Gareth Ainsworth in his squad going forward. So, we will see what the summer transfer window will bring.
“But I think if anyone is going to leave the club this summer, it's going to be Jack Nolan.”
When Gillingham signed Nolan last summer, obvious excitement rippled throughout the club’s fanbase.
The forward had just come off a season running riot for Accrington Stanley, contributing towards 30 goals as the club finished 17th in League Two.
Therefore, netting just once for the Gills isn’t what anybody expected when he arrived at Priestfield.
These performances have led to frustration from both the player and the Gillingham fanbase, who would’ve expected a much better return on their club’s investment.
As a result, if Nolan decides to leave Kent after just one year, it seems like neither side would be too dissatisfied with the departure.
