Gian Piero Gasperini Proud of Atalanta Achievements in 2024 | OneFootball

Atalanta head coach Gian Piero Gasperini hits at potential winter reinforcements ahead of the January transfer window. Gasperini talked to the media following a 1-1 draw at Lazio on Saturday evening.

Fisayo Dele-Bashiru fired Marco Baroni’s side in front midway through the first half. However, second-half substitute Marco Brescianini scored only four minutes after replacing Sead Kolasinac to rescue a late point for Atalanta.

Brescianini’s goal kept La Dea at the top of the standings. But Napoli can draw level with Atalanta with a win against basement boys Venezia later this afternoon. Nonetheless, Gasperini is proud of his side’s achievements in 2024.

“This 2024 has been marvelous, extraordinary, we’re a little sad it is over,” the Atalanta boss told Sky Sport via TWM. “We closed it by coming back to grab a result when it seemed to be an off night, but the solidity of this team shows we finished it taking control.”

Gasperini insists Atalanta shouldn’t rest on their laurels.

“I didn’t say it wasn’t repeatable… Every year is different, we certainly can’t win the Europa League again this season, because we’re not in it! We have been top of the table for much of the season and have certainly laid some foundations.

“But my ambition is always to keep improving, not to take steps backward.”

Finally, he confirmed Atalanta could bolster their squad in the coming weeks. They lost star striker Mateo Retegui to injury last week. With Gianluca Scamacca on the sidelines since the summer, they’re in the market for a new center-forward. Federico Chiesa has emerged as a potential target for the defending Europa League champions.

“The club knows full well that we had every intention in June to be very competitive this season, but we did not complete the squad in August. We’ll see what happens and are enjoying this situation,” the Atalanta gaffer concluded.
