Spain potentially waiting in the quarter-finals for the winner

Germany look to book their place in the Euro 2024 quarter-finals as they take on Denmark in a last-16 clash on Saturday night.

Julian Nagelsmann’s side eased past Scotland and Hungary before that, establishing themselves as one of the favourites to go all the way on home soil, despite expectation being fairly low pre-tournament.

If they are to be crowned European champions for the first time since 1996, they will have to do it the hard way, with a potential last-eight showdown with Spain and the likes of France or Portugal waiting beyond that.

Denmark drew all three of their Group C matches to progress as runners-up and will need to improve significantly if they are to enjoy another deep run, as they did at Euro 2020 when reaching the semi-finals.

Date, kick-off time and venue

Germany vs Denmark is scheduled for a 8pm BST kick-off on Saturday June 29, 2024.

The match will take place at the Westfalenstadion in Dortmund.

Germany vs Denmark team news

Germany will be forced into at least one change in defence, and potentially two. Jonathan Tah is suspended after picking up two bookings in the group-stage, while Antonio Rudiger is struggling with a thigh injury described as “problematic” by Nagelsmann.

Nico Schlotterbeck is set to replace Tah at centre-back, with Waldemar Anton potentially coming in too if Rudiger is ruled out. There are otherwise not expected to be significant changes, as Fullkrug likely has to settle for a place on the bench again despite his goal against Switzerland.

Denmark had Thomas Delaney back in the squad against Serbia after illness and he could play a greater role here, with midfielder Morten Hjulmand suspended. Brentford’s Christian Norgaard is also an option to start.

Rasmus Hojlund is expected to keep his place at front, despite managing a total of just two shots across his three appearances at the tournament so far.

Germany were certainly not at their best against Switzerland, but qualification to the last-16 had already been secured and full focus can be expected to return here.

Denmark have not looked a particularly potent force at the tournament, and even a changed German defence should be good enough to keep them quiet and provide the platform for a routine win.
