Semir Telalovic signed for Blackburn Rovers in the summer of 2023 but struggled for form at Ewood Park

Semir Telalovic's short-lived spell as a Blackburn Rovers player came to an end with little fanfare this summer and it's fair to say the 24-year-old underwhelmed during his time at Ewood Park.

The German-born striker was signed by John Dahl Tomasson in the summer of 2023 from German giants Borussia Mönchengladbach, signing a three-year deal with Rovers, but his time in the Championship was one to forget.

He departed on a permanent basis earlier this summer, just one year into a three-year deal with a move to 2. Bundesliga side SSV Ulm, and it's a move that benefited all parties, with Telalovic unable to break into the Rovers side on a regular basis, despite their disappointing 2023/24 campaign.

All in all, Telalovic's time as a Blackburn player will ultimately go down as a forgettable one, thanks to his lack of match action and lack of goals when he did play.

Telalovic had spent his entire career in Germany prior to his move to Rovers on deadline day in 2023, and he looked like a decent signing on paper after impressing for Borussia Mönchengladbach II, having even played a handful of games for the first-team in the Bundesliga.

The young striker had played three times in the Bundesliga for Borussia Mönchengladbach, but it was his 22 goals in 50 games for their second-string outfit, nearly one every other game, which led to Rovers signing him for an undisclosed fee.

After completing his signing, then Rovers' director of football Gregg Broughton told the club website: "Semir still has huge potential to develop. He will bring great pace, finishing ability and directness to our forward options."

However, the Ewood Park faithful never saw the aforementioned abilities, and he struggled to break into Rovers' starting XI, initially under Tomasson, and then under John Eustace.

Telalovic featured from the bench in his four league games after arriving, before being used as an unused substitute and even being left out of the matchday squad for the next couple of months.

He made just two league starts, both coming during the festive period, as the club's squad depth was tested, and he failed to find the back of the net.

Telalovic was used from the bench sparingly during the second half of the season and when he did come on he struggled to make an impact.

In total, the German made 20 appearances across all competitions, failing to score or assist once and it was clear he didn't feature in Eustace's plans going forward.

He departed for his homeland in July, and ultimately he'll be remembered as a flop who wasn't quite good enough to cut it in the Championship, and a move away from Ewood Park for Telalovic was the right call.

Blackburn Rovers supporters may be keeping a keen eye on Semir Telalovic this season

Now plying his trade in the German second tier, Blackburn supporters may be interested to see how he gets on in his homeland after his forgettable spell in Lancashire.

So far, Telalovic is yet to find the back of the net for his new club in five appearances, and he's started just one league game.

The 24-year-old is presumably low on confidence after his season at Blackburn, and he hasn't scored a competitive goal since May 2023, when he scored a hat-trick for Borussia Mönchengladbach II against Schalke II, although he did have an impressive strike rate for Rovers' U21 side, scoring five goals in four appearances.

Perhaps Telalovic just needs that one goal for his new club, and he may start scoring on a regular basis, which would be a blow for Rovers after parting ways with him in the summer.

The 24-year-old will be looking to get his career back on track this season, and he'll be looking to show Blackburn that he's capable of scoring goals following his Ewood Park departure.
